On Sunday NY new music ensemble Alarm Will Sound presented Song Book by John Cage at Pace University. Members alternated performing voice, occasional instruments and various other actions including writing words on a chalkboard, playing records, roller skating and throwing dice, amid projections, clotheslines and anarchy symbols. It’s indeterminacy also belied a structure and dynamic, emphasized by lighting design, and built to a crescendo in the first half with the ensemble moving thru the audience and throwing thousands of sheets of paper in the air. Good timez!
